Keeping Your Granite Countertops in the Best Shape

While granite countertops are strong and durable by nature, you can do a number of things to make sure they keep their luster and look. Granite counters might be low maintenance, but they still need to be maintained to some degree to ensure they last for a long time.

Here are some simple tips on keeping your granite countertops in prime condition:

  • Quickly clean up spills. Despite their stain resistance, granite countertops can be adversely affected by liquids that have a high level of acidity (soda, alcohol, orange juice, etc.). Clean these up immediately by soaking them up with a paper towel or cloth, and then go over the impacted area with a damp rag.
  • Don’t put large weights/heavy objects on the edges. The added weight can cause the countertops to suffer from extra pressure and damage.
  • Seal your counters. This adds another level of protect against etching, scratches and so forth. While this doesn’t mean you’ll be 100% safeguarded against stains, sealing will provide you with a bit more time to clean up spills before they become stains.
